2019 Honda Pilot vs 2018 Honda Pilot

Proudly Serving Chattanooga, TN

The midsize Honda Pilot has versatile appeal, with seating for up to eight passengers, cargo room to spare, and plenty of safety and infotainment tech. Here's what you need to know about how the 2019 Pilot compares with the 2018 version of this perennial best-seller.

Performance

Drivers who choose the Elite or Touring trims 2019 Pilot will enjoy an upgraded nine-speed automatic transmission. Those who have tried it out note smoother shifting than with last year's model. Other Pilot models are equipped with a six-speed automatic.

Both Pilot model years are equipped with a powerful 280-horsepower V6 that gets an EPA-estimated 19 city/27 highway miles per gallon. The SUV comes with standard front-wheel and optional all-wheel drive. You'll appreciate the precise steering and smooth ride the Pilot offers.

Appearance

No appearance changes were made to the Pilot for the new model year. The SUV was last redesigned in 2016 and maintains the same exterior, which is larger and lighter than previous Pilot generations and boasted a sleeker, crossover-inspired design. With several model years now in the third generation, expect a redesign or refresh for the 2020 or 2021 version of the Pilot.

Features

New standard driver assistance tech has been added to the 2019 Pilot, including automatic high beams, road departure mitigation, forward collision warning with collision mitigation braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. These features require an upgrade if you choose the 2018 model.

Both the 2018 and 2019 Pilot trims are equipped with a multi-angle rearview camera, 5-inch display screen with Bluetooth and USB, and seven-speaker audio. Available upgrades include a larger touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, wireless charging, a moonroof, and three-zone automatic climate control.
