2020 Honda Pilot vs 2020 Toyota Highlander

Serving Chattanooga, TN

The 2020 Honda Pilot is a popular, capable midsize SUV. The Pilot puts in a strong performance in many categories, including style, safety, and performance. No matter which trim level of the Pilot you choose, rest assured you'll get a well-equipped vehicle with plenty of standard and available creature comforts and technology. The 2020 Pilot doesn't get many aesthetic or mechanical changes, but there is a new trim level in the family this year called the Black Edition. The Pilot belongs to the third generation that started in 2016. While there are some variations in amenities, this year's Pilot features a roomy and versatile interior with spacious and comfortable back seats and a smooth, precise ride. The Pilot competes with several other vehicles, including the 2020 Toyota Highlander. While the Highlander was redesigned this year, its cabin is still comparatively dated and lacking in many of the Pilot's standard features. The Highlander also has less room in its interior and less precise handling.

All trims of the 2020 Honda Pilot have the same engine, which is a 3.5L V6. This engine generates up to 280 HP and 262 LB-FT of torque. The Pilot's engine is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission on most trims. The Touring trim level and above, however, get a nine-speed automatic transmission instead. You also have choices when it comes to drivetrain. The base trims come standard with front-wheel drive, while the Elite and Black Edition models come with all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available on the other trims. The 2020 Highlander only comes with one transmission across the lineup, leaving fewer options for those who want a customized driving experience.

Interior & Design

Inside, the Pilot's cabin has a dazzling design at all trim levels. Many features come standard, starting with the base level. A versatile seating configuration is a highlight of the 2020 Highlander, which has seating for eight occupants on most trims and seating for seven with the Touring and up. The base trim comes loaded with a five-inch display screen, USB charging ports, split-folding back seats, and a backup camera. Standard safety includes forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, road departure mitigation, and more. An eight-inch display screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is standard on the higher-level trims. The Touring adds a WiFi hotspot and parking sensors. Despite its redesign, this year's Highlander has fewer amenities, and its cabin is less spacious and comfortable.

A simultaneously rugged and sleek style defines the 2020 Honda Pilot. Roof rails, chrome accents, and a hands-free liftgate are some notable exterior features. Select trims, including the Black Edition, get their unique exterior accents as well, which are matched with contrast stitching on the interior. Sound-reducing glass makes for a quiet and comfortable ride, while a panoramic sunroof makes the cabin brighter and more cheerful. The 2020 Highlander has fewer options for a custom appearance and a less adventure-ready design. Furthermore, you need to pay more for many amenities that the Pilot offers standard.
