The Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla have been competitors of one another in the compact car category class for a long time. The Honda Civic originally made its appearance in the automotive market in 1972 as a subcompact car. In 2000 Honda upgraded the Civic to a larger size, changing its classification to a compact car. The Toyota Corolla has undergone a nearly identical transformation. The Corolla was first introduced to markets in 1966 as a subcompact car then moved to the compact car category in 1991 after a design change by Toyota. The Honda Civic is now in its tenth generation while the Toyota Corolla is in its twelfth generation.

The more powerful turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four engine produces 174 horsepower and 167 pound-feet of torque all while achieving 32 miles per gallon in the city and 42 miles per gallon on the highway. There is one engine option offered for all of the 2019 Toyota Corolla trims. The 2019 Corolla utilizes a 1.8-liter inline-four engine that produces 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque.


Honda has been continually modifying the exterior of the tenth generation Civic since 2016. Unlike the Toyota Corolla which had its last facelift in 2017, the new 2019 Honda Civic has undergone a light-facelift for 2019.
