Tips for Navigating Winter Driving Conditions

The holidays are upon us here in Chattanooga, TN. While we don’t typically get more than a little slush and the occasional ice patch, chances are that you may have considered traveling to be with family in another state or region of the U.S. With snow all over during the winter season, people often look for ways to avoid the slipping of the wheels as they drive along their driveway and street. At Economy Honda Superstore, we give you information about how to effectively control ice or snow in your driveway.

There are three common methods to add traction, and they are as follows:

  1. Road Salt - Salt can be applied in the road so that it can melt the driveway. After applying, there will be friction between the wheels and the ground, hence movement without sliding.
  2. Kitty Litter - Use a clay-based kitty litter just in front of the wheels. It will give the car the traction needed to move forward. A drawback of using this method is that it imbibes water and so the road becomes slippery.
  3. Sand - Sand is cheap, and comes stored in boxes that can be put in the car trunk. Sand is generally readily available and can be applied easily to keep traction.
